The beard library: Fu Manchu – a moustache for the bad boys out there

Fu Manchu beard

Are you ready for Movember? I went to the gym this morning and noticed a guy with a “Fu Manchu” shaped beard. Thought it looked pretty funny, so I praised it the beard of this week – Movember on my mind ūüôā

Fu Manchu Beard

So what’s this one about?¬†A¬†Fu Manchu moustache¬†or simply¬†Fu Manchu¬†is a full, straight¬†moustache¬†that originates on the corners of the mouth and grows downward past the clean-shaven lips and chin in two tapered “tendrils”, often extending past the jaw line.¬†On the upper lip it is shaved relatively short. A¬†moustache wax is required¬†to groom this style.

This beard¬†derives its name from¬†Fu Manchu, a fictional character created by British/Irish author¬†Sax Rohmer, who is shown wearing such a moustache in film adaptations of Rohmer’s stories.¬†However, the style has gained popularity across the world, particularly with bikers and other groups of people who feel like bad boys.

For: Bikers, Leather and Fetish bad boys
Family: Moustache
Age: 30-50
I call it: Brother of Pornstache

Styling:¬†First, I’d recommend to fully grow out your beard, not only the moustache. When it’s long enough, trim to shape. Shave¬†everything clean so the¬†moustache can hang down¬†without touching your face. I guess you need a good trimmer to do so! You need some weeks to get the beard to a good length so it can hang down like you wish.¬†While growing out the moustache, you can use a good grooming wax to keep the moustache in shape. When it’s long enough and you trained the hair to keep the shape, you might don’t need the wax any longer.
